We have many previous on how to jailbreak your iOS Device on several firmwares. At the current (5.1) firmware there is not anything very different. Let’s show how to do it:

What we will need is:                                                   (All links below the main tutorial)

– Redsn0w

– iTunes (10.6)

– Device updated to 5.1  — [If you need an UNTETHERED jailbreak, do NOT update to that version! ]

> Preparations

Step 1: Download and Install the latest version of iTunes (10.6)

Step 2: Open up iTunes, and back up your device.

Step 3: Upgrade your firmware to iOS 5.1.

Step 4: Download the latest version of Redsn0w.

Step 5: Start Redsn0w, select “Jailbreak” then “Install Cydia”. Follow the steps to place your device into DFU mode.

Step 6: Now, since this jailbreak is tethered, what we need to do EVERY time the device boots is to use redsn0w and select the option “JUST BOOT”.

Optional Step: If you want to boot without the need of a computer, you can install the “Semi-Tether” package from Cydia. However, you won’t be able to use some functions of your Device. But, if you use Redsn0w, you won’t have any problem.
